[ Axel's not the only one who hasn't been in a certain apartment that much, lately. Xion's been scarce, keeping to herself as much as humanly possible except through journal communication. But right now, despite the cold, she's sitting on a bench in the center of town. At least she's got a puffy white coat on to keep her warm.

She's writing in her journal, at the moment. Doing ... math! Very simple math, just some addition, and murmuring aloud to herself as she does it. 363... 364... 365...

After a sudden pause, she crosses all of her work out, then sets her pen down, staring up at the sky. Despite her quiet voice, the journal picks up what she says anyway. ]

I turn a year old today...

[ Then she shuts the journal, so no one who isn't actually nearby right now will hear this part -- or see her expression turn suddenly sad. ]

[ she shakes her head, then ducks it down to rub at her eyes. ]

Crying's something people do when they're upset, usually.

[ well, she is pretty upset. and the tears just won't stop, for some reason. so she just leans against Riku and lets them go. she's very quiet, at least, aside from the occasional intake of breath and jump of her shoulders. ]

[That's fine. He'll stay put and let her get this off her chest. She really looks like she needs it.]

[The PROBLEM with that is, sup Riku, your favorite person's approaching because he saw Xion first. And then Riku. Hugging her.

...what.]

...uh.

[ AND she's in tears. which becomes evident when she starts at his voice, looking up, and -- her eyes are wet and there are tear trails on her face. ]

R-Roxas?

[Oh, great. Juuust who needed to show up.]

Heh.

...[Give him a second, trying to register that A.) Xion's crying and B.) Riku's sitting there comforting her.]

...what did you do, Riku?

[ oh no. she stiffens, eyebrows drawing together sharply in sudden apprehension. roughly she scrubs her eyes, wiping the tears off her face, and frowning a little. there's not much strength behind it, and her voice is quiet. ]

He didn't do anything to me, Roxas.

How about you stop jumping to conclusions? Just because you think I'm a prick...

[He shakes his head.]

She was upset, so I thought I'd help her out. That's all there is to it.

[Eyebrow raise. There is one.] What happened? [Ugh stupid Riku. Roxas is going to ignore him and focus on Xion instead.] What's wrong?

[ Xion hovers for a moment, frozen, looking between Riku and Roxas momentarily. At a loss, she stares down at her lap, twisting her fingers together. Her voice gets even quieter. ]

... I've just been worried. Sora got kidnapped, and I-I knew you and Axel weren't really talking and I felt like it was my fault, and -- and everything had gone wrong because of me...

[ A quiet, unhappy noise escapes her, and she shuts her eyes and ducks her head. Somehow, these days, she's admitting all these things she never wanted to admit in the first place. ]

Which I seriously doubt is true.

[Derp. Still just hanging there, but he'll shake his head again.]

She thought it had to do with explaining what she is.

...Sora being kidnapped is nothing new. They always take him. Always. [He pauses though, not sure how to word the bit about him and Axel.] What Axel and I talked about has nothing to do with you, so don't think like that, okay?

[ ... she doesn't look up. for her, it's not that easy. the fear of rejection and the stress all those explanations put her under was immense -- and painful. very painful.

in short, it's been hell. and being told it's no big deal isn't helping. ] ... it's new to me. And it's ... it's my birthday today.

[ her shoulders give an alarming jump, accompanied by a hiccup from her. ]

[Well, while she talks to Roxas he'll keep quiet. For now he has nothing to say, so he'll just... listen.]

Birthday...? [Aw man, way to make him feel worse, Xion. Roxas isn't quite sure how to make her feel better either.] It...I'm sorry.

... I just want to know if it's going to be okay, Roxas. I just ... want to know if the three of us are going to still be friends after this.

[ and, you know, Riku may not be in this conversation right now, but she is so immensely glad she's there. she hasn't moved from leaning on him slightly for a reason. his presence is helping her stay brave. ]

[Good. She seemed so upset. It's good that she's standing up at least a little.

And considering he's let Kairi use him as a pillow before? This is pretty mild.]

[~~You know you liked having girlboobs pressed into your chest Riku bb.~~ Roxas is just starting to become very, very confused.] ...neither of you have been at the apartment very much lately.

[ huh, suddenly she's not meeting his eyes again. ]

... I was scared of making it worse, so ... I thought it'd be better if I stayed away for a bit.

[~~Yeah well. That's Kairi. And we all know what Riku thinks--~~

Er. Still watchin'. Roxas...really acts different around people who aren't him.]

[~~Which obviously means it needs to happen again. I mean what.~~ Roxas shakes his head slowly, tilting his head.]

We're best friends though, right? Why would you think that?

[ okay, what. really. a visible thrill of tension runs through Xion's body, and she just ... sort of stares at him, like she's not sure if she should be mad or surprised or nothing at all or what. ]

... Roxas ... last time we talked, after all of that, you just said you "needed to think." I had no idea what you were thinking, if maybe you were mad at me after all ... and then you and Axel weren't talking. What was I supposed to think? After what I did, anyone would ... hate me, so ... I thought ...

[ abruptly the steel goes out of her and she slumps. ] I was so certain I'd ruined everything. So badly that we couldn't be friends anymore...
