[ There is a girl in the village plaza who looks rather out of sorts as she sits on the ground, legs out to her sides, in a random sort of spot. She is kind of blank-faced as she stares at the other passers-by, with only a hint of confusion in her brow to betray how she's feeling.

Though it might be hard to see her face clearly under that short cape she's got on. It's black, with silver tassels. And though she's trying to watch what's going on around her, at the same time, it's like she wants to hide. But then, why isn't she moving away?

Maybe it has something to do with the carton of eggs on the ground next to her.

Though it probably has something to do with the fact that she now has white wings for arms. Can't really pick up a carton of eggs when you don't have hands, can you?

So the strange hooded girl with the feathered arms, at a loss, will just sit there for a while trying to figure out what to do.

God help you if you step on her eggs, though.

"'Poor little ugly duckling!" she would say. 'Why are you so different from the others?' And the ugly duckling felt worse than ever. He secretly wept at night. He felt nobody wanted him.

'Nobody loves me, they all tease me! Why am I different from my brothers?'" ]

(ooc; The Ugly Duckling, everybody. And yes, the pic is just a reference -- her feathers are actually white, not brown, and she's not wearing any other pieces of that costume. Cape, bird arms, and then her normal clothing beneath.)

[Xion doesn't look as out of place as this bear here. Staring blankly at her, her arms and eggs.

... He has been thrown in in the middle of an experiment, hasn't he? Because just being a bear isn't enough, of course. See the bear sigh and approach you to sniff at you, Xion. Don't worry he won't even get close to those eggs.]

......... it's not ... trying to hurt her? W-Why, it's a huge bear. ;~; Even if he's not making any motions towards her eggs, one arm-wing is laid protectively over them anyway, as if that would, you know, help.

When it becomes clear the bear isn't going to hurt her, she finally pipes up. ]

Um ... can I ... help you?

[Unless she can do magic and turn him back into human, no she can't. The bear shakes its head and nuzzles her face a bit before staring at her. It's face isn't very expressive but it almost looks as if he's asking her something. He would have never thought that asking 'you ok' would be so hard someday, also pay no mind to the journal in its mouth, it doesn't belong to a victim of its hunger.]

Ah... [ N-Nuzzled? When it happens she tilts her head back reflexively, and her hood falls, revealing her face. She looks the same as ever. She blinks at him rapidly, obviously trying to process this development. After a moment of that, though, her expression finally shifts from confusion to something like quiet concern. Without thinking she reaches out a hand to touch the bear's fur -- and then remembers that she has no hands, and drops her wing-arm mid reach with a sigh. ]

Do you ... know me? [ With one last glance at her eggs, she stands, and tries to move around his side. Apparently she's trying to get a look at his back. Got any wings? ]

[The bear nods and stays still as she moves around him. It has wings indeed, they are still the same color as when he's normal, light red with ice blue tips, but the animal can't see them. While she's busy examining the animal it will start to make sounds and move its head, letting the journal it was carrying fall to the ground, it's hard to fight with oneself to stop making bear sounds and form words, even with the magic translation in Luceti.]

Xion...

[Unfortunately the voice isn't recognizable, it's just... A bear, talking. And not being very good at vocalizing, in fact her name sounded more like "biom" or something like that. Bears aren't made to talk.]

[ Eeeeeeeeep! Oh gosh. Well, whoever this is, they're definitely a resident of the village ... and those wings sure are familiar. If only she could remember who they belonged to...

She frowns thoughtfully to herself, pressing a wingtip over her lips before circling around to face him again-- at least, that's what she starts to do when it tries to speak. ]

Whoa... hey, are you trying to talk to me? It almost sounded like ... no, that can't be right. [ She really does come around to face him now, watching him curiously. The journal lies forgotten on the ground -- for now. ]

[The bear nods enthusiastically when she asks if it's trying to talk, only to let its head hang down in frustration when she mentioned how strange it sounded. He knows it sounds strange and all, Xion, he can't help it. Still he tries it again.]

Xion...

[It obviously takes it a lot of effort but at least this time it sounds a little closer to how her name really should sound. It's still loud and in a bear tone but it's probably the best it can do.]

[ GASP. Now it clicks! ]

That's my name! You really do know me. But who are you? I know I recognize your wings... [ She places a wingtip on the bear's head, her expression full of sympathy. ] Did the experiment get you? Is that why you're like this?

[The animal shakes its head, no, the experiment didn't got him... Or so he thinks. The animal paws at the journal in the ground with his name on it, pushing it towards her with the cover with his name facing upwards so she can read it.]

Droids...

[ She steps back when he nudges the journal at her, and kneels down to take a closer look. She can't pick it up, but ... she's still able to read the name on it. ]

Keiichi?! [ Xion stands up again and stares at him, shocked, and then sympathy retakes her expression. ] Oh no... and you're stuck like this! The ... d-- droids? Did you say "droids"...? That must mean... you were kidnapped? Oh, Keiichi... [ She steps forward and gives him a brief hug, around the neck, best as she can manage with her bird-arms ... and him being a bear, and all. When she steps back she still looks worried. ] What are we going to do...?

[Keiichi nods, yes Xion it's him and he was kidnapped and is now stuck like this. He nuzzles into the hug a bit when it happens and then stares blankly at her, trying to think... Before a rumbling sound comes from the animal.]

Different... Form... Again...

[If it happens two more times he's calling it an habit of theirs, meeting when one of them is stuck in a difficult situation with their form.]

Those stupid Malnosso. Can you even fit in a house, now? [ Uncertain. ] ... these strange things always happen to us, huh? [ She seems to have caught his drift. Someday, they'll just hang out, in their own bodies! ] Is there anything I can do for you, Keiichi?

[And without experiments screwing around, hopefully. Keiichi makes an uncertain sound at the first question, he has yet to try to enter in a house but even if he did he's so big he probably would break something. The animal shakes its head at the last question, he can't think of anything she could do, specially taking her own state into consideration.]

Xion... Not... Hurt...

[You're not hurt or anything, right, Xion? Just... having those wings as arms.]

[ ... it takes her a moment to parse if he's asking her if she's hurt, or if he's telling her he's not hurt. Once she figures out it's the former, she emphatically shakes her head. ]

I'm okay. [ Physically. ] Just kind of weird right now. But that'll get better. ... would you maybe like some company? [ Even if that company is emotionally fragile and likely to burst into tears or start believing she's an ugly duckling at any moment? ]

[He is with you about the weird part, Xion. The animal sighs and nods at her question, calmly laying down to rest by her side. He has to go home and find Minato but... He can spend some time here even if they can't talk, he doesn't want to leave her alone like this.]

[ Giving in to her repeated impulse - she can't help it, right now he is large and fuzzy - Xion sits beside him and leans against him, pillowing her head against his fur. ]

It's not so bad if you're not alone... right?

[That's fine, it's not annoying or anything and Keiichi would probably do the same if he had besides him a large and fuzzy bear who won't hurt him. No one can resist to a teddy bear.

The animal makes a rumbling but appreciative sound as she pillows her head against it, nodding at her question.]

Best... Company...

[Even if they don't know each other much, it would be a big lie if Keiichi said he didn't enjoy Xion's company. It was a bit of a problem, though, giving how he didn't want to get closer to the friends he already had neither wanted more... But it's hard to keep working for that when they always seem to meet during experiments or when their bodies aren't rightly in shape, so he just gives in for now.]

[ It's the "best" that strikes her. She blinks, sitting up, trying to lean forward so she can get a look at his face ... but it's just a bear face, anyway. She flops back against him again, but he might have seen the light blush on her cheeks. What a sweet thing to say.... ]

... I'm glad you're here, Keiichi. ... even if you are a bear.

[Well, even if it was his normal face there wouldn't be much to read from it, maybe a content smile because that's how he's feeling now, but that's all. Even if part of him wants to withdraw as much as possible, she is a great company and someone whose company he enjoys.

The bear makes another content sound, approving of her words. He doesn't like being a bear but, as she said, it's not that bad with company and when he's able to be like this.]

Even... With... Wings...

[He means to say the same to her, he's glad he found her even if her arms are wings. He doesn't mean the other set of wings, those are normal in Luceti after all.]

... with wings? [ She tilts her head back, and up, curious, sitting forward a little to let her Luceti wings flap once or twice in response. But a moment later she understands his meaning, looking down at her arms, and a soft sound escapes her. She settles back against him, curling up against his side. ]

You mean with my arms like this, don't you? Even with wings...

[ ... she actually feels ... okay, with Keiichi here. Even though he's a bear. Because he's still Keiichi ... still that boy who somehow just knows how to make her smile and laugh. Even if she can't do those things right now, he still makes her feel better just by being here. ]

Hey, Keiichi? Once you're normal, we should spend some time together. I'd really like that.

[ ... of course, she doesn't know he wants to withdraw from company. All she's thinking is that maybe it'd make them both smile. ]

[Have an agreement sound, Xion. Glad to see she gets his meaning even with his difficulty to talk. Well, back when they first met she wasn't able to talk at first either, was she? They have a bit of experience with one of them being unable to talk.

The animal remains quiet and still after her next comment, though, maybe even a bit tense. Spend time together, he would like that too, Xion is really nice and it's comfortable to be around him. He wants to know more of her, get along more... But... He has enough as it is now, doesn't he? More friends, better friends... That wouldn't be good. It would just be more people he couldn't leave behind, more reasons to come to despise the idea of returning to his world, more reasons to ignore the friends he made at Hinamizawa if they come here... More ways to hurt him. More people in danger if they come to care for him enough to want to help him with anything.

No. He can't allow that to happen. He can't let things change like that.]

Brigade... Meetings...

[There's still the Brigade, unless she has left it while he was gone, they will meet there. That's enough. It has to be enough. Companions, both members of the Brigade, nothing more. Just as Haruhi is just the leader of the Brigade and nothing else. Things just have to stay that way.]
