... is it strange to sometimes wish you could go home? Even if there's nothing there for you? [ nothing except death, in her case. this isn't hilariously morbid or anything, no. ]

I'm just not sure when or how things got so ... complicated. Is this just what life is like...?

[ Xion is outside today, somewhere a little more quiet. She's sitting on the railing of the bridge that passes over the river between houses 14 and 35, swinging her legs gently as she holds onto the rail with one hand and the journal with her other. It ... doesn't seem terribly safe, but then again, she's used to much higher places. Feel free to startle her from her contemplation. She could use it. ]

[... and splash, he falls in the river below. After some flailing in the water he finally surfaces and starts treading water.]

[ LDJKFAHLSDIHGADJ ] Sokka!

[ oh my god you loser what did you even just do. concerned, Xion leans waaaaaaaaaay out ....

and loses her own balance.

and promptly shrieks and falls in right beside him.

and has her own moment of flailing before she surfaces, trying to cough and laugh at the same time without much success. ]

Not again!

[He's just glad she didn't fall ON him. He sputters about before realizing she's in the water too.]

Xion! Are you okay?

[ she's just laughing. ] I'm fine! I know how to swim.

[ she even briefly dunks her head, resurfacing so that the water pushes her hair out of her face. ]

Now I'm going to have to walk home soaking wet. Thanks, Sokka. [ jeez. that sounds more like the old Xion. ]

[He laughs a bit.]

Sorry! I slipped, that's all. [He starts swimming to shore, a little concerned about the fact he too has to walk home soaked.]

[ she just follows, clambering up onto the bank to just sit for a moment and wring some of the water out of her hair. she's not even going to bother with her dress, it's a lost cause now. ]

Hehe, it's okay. I sorta feel better now anyway. [ laughs again, quietly. ]

[It's kind of a lost cause for him, hair included, so he doesn't bother except to brush a few strands of hair back again.]

Well good! Except for the getting wet part. It would've been nice to avoid that part.

Hehe. I don't mind that much, actually. It helped snap me out of the mood I was in.

[ she wraps her arms loosely around her knees, looking over at him with a quiet smile on her face. ]

I know you were right, before. About not giving up. And I won't. I mean... even if things were difficult while the whole village was going crazy, that's obviously over now. There's really only one thing that's still bad right now, but ... if I can fix that, I think everything might finally start getting better again. [ a beat. ] That is, if the village doesn't blow up again or anything.

[He gives her a friendly nudge.]

Fixing things is good. It really helps. I didn't think it would, but I'm really glad I was able to put things in the past with Sanji. Sure, it probably means he'll go back to calling me 'shithead', but that's not so bad.

[ ... hang on a moment. ]

... were you and Sanji fighting?

Not so much fighting as not talking to one another. It's over now, so... [No need to go into it.]

[ she blinks at him once or twice, slightly bewildered, then decides to let it go. if it's over, then it's not a big deal. ]

Okay. And for me, I guess... I just need to figure out how to fix it. That's the hard part.

[You know, by now, it bears asking.]

What exactly needs fixed anyway?

[ opens her mouth, shuts it, and actually flushes a little, looking away. not sure if want to even bring this up, really. but... ]

... Riku ... before he left, he said something that... um... [ rubs the back of her neck, uncertain and flustered. ] ... we're not dating anymore.

[Well that shocks him. He blinks in surprise.]

... are you serious? Why? What did he say?

[ she nods unhappily. after a moment's thought, she decides it'd be easier to show him than tell him, and pulls her journal out of the pocket of her dress. it's wet, of course, but it still magically works, as usual. she flips to the page of that fateful entry of Riku's and simply shows it to him. ]

[Sokka listens in on it. And then a second time. And then a third time. He can understand the emotions. But... the reasoning completely eludes him. He knows that keyblades are ridiculous weapons that... do stuff. Maybe he should have pressed Riku for more information when he had a chance.]

.... I don't get it. What's wrong with him wanting a keyblade?

[ that actually takes her back a little, leaving her in silence for a moment. she looks away for a moment, thinking. ]

... I've died twice, Sokka. Both times, it was because I possessed the Keyblade. I know it's a powerful weapon that can do good things, but ... without it, I never would have had to die. At least, not here. [ at home it was somewhat inevitable. ] ... I thought Riku understood that. But during that last week while everything was crazy, he had a Keyblade. It ... it was strange and I didn't like it, but it wasn't his fault he had it. I was going to apologize to him, but... then I heard that.

[ now she looks a little sad. ] It's like he wasn't even thinking about what it did to me. I know he wants to get stronger, but aren't there better ways than wanting ... that? He's so jealous of Sora... but he really has no idea what it's like to wield the Keyblade. It isn't always good. But he didn't even think. And ... it really hurt, to hear that. I guess ... I thought maybe he knew better.

[Now it all makes more sense. So, that was the cause of all the problems... He leans forward and starts pulling at the grass.]

You know, Xion. When I was growing up, I used to think my sister's waterbending was a waste of time. She could barely do anything with it and no one else from home had any kind of bending. But then we found Aang and over the course of a year, I was traveling with three other master benders, my sister becoming one of them. And then there was me, the guy with the boomerang. So, you know, I kinda have a pretty good idea of what it's like to be jealous of someone you've grown up with. A year ago, I'd probably feel exactly the same way Riku does about my own week as the Avatar.

But anyway. [He looks back up at her.] I know Riku is kind of an idiot and not much of a thinker... but as much as he might want one of those ridiculous weapon things, I don't think he'd ever put it before you.

[ at first, all this really does is make Xion think of the times she's been in their shoes. weaponless, feeling powerless around people who were stronger, better, braver. and she wonders a little if they'd been made to suffer for it too, been mocked and threatened.

but that's a selfish way to think, and with a sigh she accepts what he's getting. a breeze comes off the river to play lightly around them, and the cool air brings a rise of goose bumps over her damp skin. she rubs her hands up and down her arms as she speaks. ]

... I know. But Axel and Roxas never would have made that kind of mistake. I never thought Riku would, but ... he did. [ a beat ] Maybe I'm being a little unfair, but... [ she looks up at Sokka, frowning slightly in sadness and concern. ] Well, that's what I'm trying to fix. I have to figure out how to trust him again.

[Sokka doesn't get the brunt of the breeze, because Xion is in the way. Still, he can feel the chill setting in from being outside and soaking wet.]

Well, just talk to him? Communication is kind of handy like that. Besides, he's not either of those guys you mentioned. He's kind of different now anyway since he came back. He's shorter, younger, and well... actually, that's about the only thing that's different that I noticed. [He gives a small shrug.] Anyway, we're both soaked.

We spoke. I've just ... never felt anything like these emotions before, so I'm having a little trouble figuring all of it out. [ very sheepish. and when he brings up the fact that they're soaked, she nods, taking her journal back from him and putting it back in her pocket before standing. ] Yeah, we should go get dried off.

[Standing up now as well.]

You were upset, it happens. Honestly, Riku got it easy. You don't want to be on the other side of one of my sister's angry rants.

[ smiles a little, crookedly. ]

Sometimes I wish I could do that. Just... yell. [ flaps her hands in an expansive gesture. ] ... but I don't think I'd be very good at it. [ a laugh ] Her rants are pretty bad, I'm guessing?

I wouldn't know. I stopped paying attention to them about five years ago. [Best decision of his life!] Maybe you could take lessons. Learn how to just let it all out.
