[ Without any warning, a short, sharp shriek of fear is going to be transmitted across the journals. It's followed by dead silence, and a few whispered words too quiet to be picked up on.

A moment goes by in silence, wherein Xion notices both the room's other [Bad username or site: perplex_me title= @ livejournal.com] and her journal at the foot of her bed. Her voice is shaky when the journal picks it up next, and she's both addressing anyone who heard as well as Roxas. ]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to -- it's -- I'm okay.

What's...

[ She could have sworn she saw him, just as she awoke. Right out of the corner of her eye, like some monster from her nightmares. It would be impossible to mistake that blue hair, those impossibly cold eyes... but there was no one there. Not to mention her dreams of the past few days haven't exactly been nightmares, so much as... ]

--Sora! Sora! Where is he?! [ very upset Poppet is very upset and isn't sure if she's really yelling this at Roxas, or at the whole universe. ] SORA!

It's not that... If anything's gonna happen, I'm gonna make it happen to me, not to you.

[God he hasn't told anyone else this, but he's determined to save her somehow.]

[ she says it with a lot of force, surprising herself, but she barrels on ]

Sora, that's the whole point, it can't be you! If you lost, if you -- if you died, my programming would complete itself, and ... I'm not sure what would happen! I think ... I think I'd try to absorb you, and what if I did? What if we could never reverse it? I might have to die anyway just to set things right again...

I just don't know, and it's not a risk I'm willing to take. It has to be me. And ... and what do you mean, you did, once?

[And her force surprises him so much that he drops the book. Seeing as he still had it propped on the desk where he'd been snoozing, it didn't fall far, and it didn't close, but there was still clattering.]

Okay, okay! [Man, if she panicked like that... even he couldn't ignore that.] I hadn't told anyone I was thinking about it anyway... I just wanna be able to help you more.

[And then he pauses, 'cause... well, this is weird.] I... don't remember all of it. I think this's gotta be tied up with all the Kairi stuff... But uh, back before you and Roxas were around? When Riku was evil? He had a keyblade that was made of the Princesses' hearts, and I stabbed myself with it and got made a Heartless. I broke out of it somehow, though. I think that's when Roxas was born.

It's okay, Sora. I've accepted my mistake.

[ paaaaaause. whoa. wait, Riku was evil? she ... did not know that. she even voices it aloud. ] When he was evil...? When was he...? [ pauses again, more briefly this time ] ... you've really gone through a lot, huh.

Really big price for one dumb mistake. [Hear that tone of voice? He haaaaaates this.] And I pushed you for it!

[Ohwhoopsbackupbackupbackup.] We all have... even you and Roxas and Axel. Riku got... You know him, he really wanted to leave our home, then something happened and home got taken over by the darkness and that's how I got the Keyblade. But Maleficent found him and lied to him, and she ended up using him. He got better, but yeah... He hasn't gone through any of that yet. Not here, at least.

Yeah, I know. But it wasn't your fault, Sora. You didn't know what would happen. I did, but I still took it...

[ sigh. pauses as she listens to his story, anyway. it's more detail than Riku's given her... and it's strange to think about. ] He told me about that part... about being behind you guys. It's strange... the Riku I met back when I was in the Organization was so serious and quiet. He always seemed ... kind of sad. He never said much, but ... he was strong. Meeting Riku here was so different. [ pauses again ] I wish a lot that things would just stay quiet, for once... that nothing bad would happen, even if it was just for a little while.

I don't... think we're gonna get that. [Much as he hates to think about it, Sora's fairly resigned to the idea that his life is pretty much at the whim of whatever fate rules their universe, now.] It's not gonna be quiet for us again.

But we can stop the bad from happening, definitely. [That, he was sure of.]

[ she sighs. ] I know. I just hope sometimes, I guess.

... [ doubtful ] How do you know?

Because that's what we do! All of us, even guys with dumb flame hair that try and pretend they don't. We're all gonna make this place better, for a long time. We'll make a promise on that. Okay?

[He's trying to cheer her up, but it isn't just bravado - he honestly feels that way.]

D-Dumb...? [ the description startles a laugh out of her, which is probably a good thing. ]

Okay, Sora. I'd like that too.

Come on, his hair is dumb! [That's it, Xion, keep laughing. It'll be okay, he promises - he'll make everything okay.]

You and me and Roxas. That's what we're always gonna do.
