[ It's not until Xion glances at a clock that she realizes something is amiss. She could have sworn, last time she checked, that was 1 AM. And now it's 10 PM? That's not possible. Did she miss something? She couldn't have fallen asleep and slept that long. The journal catches her exclamation of surprise, and her quiet question: ]

Wait, what day is it...?

[ She wanders out of her room, confused, going to knock first on Jixsan's door before she tries Roxas's.

And he's not in there.

In fact, the room is empty.

Instantly, her heart sinks -- he's gone? home? -- but then the bizarre time difference occurs to her. Is something going on? Is there an experiment? As hopeless as she suddenly feels, she has to find out. Pulling on a jacket against the nip of the air outside, she grabs her journal and darts out of the house. ]

Has anyone seen Jixsan? His room is empty! Please, please don't have gone home, I don't know if I could take you leaving, too...

[ She ends up in the village center, near the fountain, and late in the evening as it is, it's quiet here. For a moment or two she paces silently, clearly worried, unsure of where to go from here. Anyone out and about at this late hour want to help a distressed teen? ]

What kind of name is Jixsan?

[Hey, she's feeling a little crabby since she remembers falling asleep before midnight, but it's apparantly 10 PM now and she feels like she slept for only a couple of hours, not most of a day.]

[Yes, the just-slightly-too-long ku was deliberate. She could probably manage pretty well if she tried.]

Sure this isn't because you're just shitty bad at names? [There is that nagging voice in the back of his mind that insists he chill out, take a step back from the journal -- Fenimore's just a target.

Jixsan politely tells his conscience to shove it.]

[Okay, he's probably getting annoyed now. She probably should back off. It's not like she has anything against his name.]

Maybe you just have a "shitty bad" name.

[She can be the mature one here and rele -- did she really just say that? Oh goddammit.]

[He starts laughing. Just honest, heartless laughter he doesn't feel.]

Fair enough, you little smart-mouth. [Jixsan will give you that point. And he won't say what he normally would, because he remembers that she's Xion's friend; that's enough to keep Jixsan from going after her.] To be honest, I don't even like it.

[She's unsure what to make of the reaction -- it seems to be an improvement, but she's not sure she likes being called a little smart-mouth. Her mouth contorts between frown and something more neutral before she decides to let it go.]

I guess I shouldn't have talked about it like that, anyway. [A pause.] Maybe especially if you already don't like it.

[concasse]

[Ha] That's as close to an apology as I'll get, eh? [He says it fairly lightly; such a moodswinger, this one. But regardless of her answer, he moves on]

My Somebody didn't exactly have a lot of vowels to work with in his name. Couldn't be helped.

I doubt it's enough of a problem to need an apology. [But, yes, moving on.

His "somebody?" She tilts her head back and forth, arms crossed, as she tries to make sense of it. What kind of -- is that a euphemism for a lover? After all, Grune seems to call people in love "special someones." And past tense...he's talking about someone he broke up with? But they're talking about a name.]

I don't see what that has to do with your name.

[concasse]

[he should probably consider filtering this - except he can't bring himself to care all that much, either. There's something darkly amusing about this conversation for him]

Without my Somebody, my name doesn't really exist. One precedes the other.

Is she talking to a real life yandere? This thought is pretty quickly dismissed, but...that is a rather obsessive way to talk about an ex-girlfriend (or ex-boyfriend, but AU Fenimore is more inclined to think heteronormatively). She's starting to get the feeling they're talking about two different things.]

You didn't have a name before you met your..."somebody"?

[Honestly, he realizes she's probably confused and slowly trying to weave her way into a coherent conversation, but pfft, there's no fun in that.] I didn't have a name until he left me.

[Okay so she doesn't actually think in those terms because that would be silly. But she does spittake slightly. He must mean something diff -- no, he said "left me." Not much of a happy parting.

Due to the player's lack of intimate knowledge of modern Japanese views on gay men, her thoughts on this will have to be just summarized as: complicated. Her voice is mildly strangled at first as she asks:]

[How to even begin answering that question. There are two choices and Jixsan isn't sure which sounds stranger. He needs time to dwell on it.

The answer he finally decides on is profound in a way, at least for him, and a reflection of his two years in Luceti. It's also an answer he's not about to share over the journals, lest he upset Xion for some reason; frankly, he's unsure why he's telling this girl, whom he barely knows and clashed words with. Perhaps she has him in a chatty mood. Or maybe her confusion is too entertaining to pass up.

Maybe he just... doesn't care at all, destined to act on illogical whims. Either way, it's not his best filter, but it's sturdy enough.

His voice takes on a musing quality]

Nothing. I didn't exist.

[ She does know what Jixsan's tone means. And she sighs. Oh Fenimore. She wishes you knew better than that by now. ]

What's wrong with it? I mean, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned him to you at least once before!

[ She shakes her head. ] It just sounds [ made up okay that might be going too far. she's learned over her time here that not everyone has normal Earth names ] -- kind of awkward to pronounce.

... that's weird. You really don't remember, Fenimore? He's one of my best friends from home!

[She hesitates for a moment. His voice sounds vaguely familiar, as though she had talked to him once a long time ago....]

I'm pretty sure. I guess you must have just thought you had told me about him. It happens sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised if I've forgotten to tell someone about Shiemi before.

[ There's a pause. As much as she had just said there might be someone to whom she had neglected to mention Shiemi, she hadn't seriously thought it might be Xion. ]

My friend from back home? At the cram school? Cute girl, awkwardly enthusiastic about friendship? ...I really didn't mention her before?

... cram school? [ What on earth. ]
