[It's been bothering him for a while, the way he's basically left things hanging. His jealousy got the better of him, to a point where it manifested as an extremely powerful Unversed.

And then Xion got hurt-- almost killed, even. That was easily the icing on the unpleasant guilt cake.

So, here he is, quietly slipping inside the clinic. For better or worse, he has to do this.]

[ At the moment, Xion is awake, though sleep-addled; it seems she may have been napping until just a few moments ago. She's getting her bearings, staring at that too-familiar ceiling, when she hears someone walk in.

When she sees who it is...

... her reaction is very different than what she gave her other visitors. For the very first time, she does not smile. If anything, she blanches, her eyes going a little wide -- her shoulders stiff, spine rigid.

... very softly: ]

Riku.

[It's too late to turn back now. Things could either go semi-smoothly or very, very bad.

Well, he's anything but a coward.]

Hey.

... hi.

[ ... she doesn't know what to say. He might have to do the talking. ]

[He'll... just roll with it. Gradually.]

So... you feeling better?

... a little. It's ... it's gotten much easier to stay awake, and ... I can move my arms a little bit.

Well, just take it easy.

[He doesn't say that in a particularly mean tone. Yes, there is a hint of concern.]

... I will. [ ... with a small smile. ] I can't really leave even if I wanted to, after all. [ ... OKAY THAT WAS JUST DEPRESSING. fail. ]

... Riku ... [ She's frowning. Not with disapproval, but with concern. ] ... as long as he didn't hurt you.

Don't worry; I had backup.

[He's avoiding the likelihood that he did get hurt-- at least a little.]

Backup... [ ... just how many people ... her memories are very hazy, but she has this feeling like Roxas did something. And she knows him -- he would have gone to find Vanitas come hell or high water. Riku now, too, and his mysterious backup... and she knows, in her heart, without having to ask or be told, that Sanji knew and Sanji went. Just how many people...? ]

Riku ... was Vanitas killed?

[He nods, slowly.]

It had to be done.

[ For a moment, she looks away, gathering her thoughts. Dead... and the final straw was her. If she hadn't gone out that night... he might still be alive right now. What a strange feeling. Very quietly: ]

[ She looks at him again. ..... such a rush of feelings comes over her, looking at him ... it's so strange to talk to him. They never talk these days. She crawls out of her window to avoid seeing him, and here they are... and he isn't looking at her with those disappointed eyes. ... what would happen if Luke came back right now...? Would she see those eyes again? Would he turn her away, avoid her again? She misses seeing his smile.

Her expression abruptly twists, and she looks down. ]

[He stays silent for several moments. Riku can tell she's uncomfortable, but it's too late to turn back now.

And, with some hesitation, he continues...]

I went after him, you know. Before you got hurt, I tried to take him on by myself.

[ ... wide eyes. ]

You what? Riku, you could have been killed!

I thought I could handle it. Didn't think things through.

[He winces. There's more to it than that.]

But he used my feelings against me and created an Unversed. If Sora hadn't shown up, I don't know what could've happened.

... Riku ... [ ... she can't really yell at him. She could have gotten away from Vanitas ... and didn't. It's not quite the same... at least she didn't go into it planning on fighting him, but ... still. ] I ... I'm glad you're okay.

[...

Another pause.]

It wasn't just my anger he used. There's no way it could've just been that; the Unversed was too powerful.

[ She stiffens all over again.

... is ... he talking about what she thinks he's talking about? ]

[Yeah, he's totally not looking at her right now.]

I let it get out of control.

[ ... her expression folds. Suddenly she looks like she's about to cry. When she speaks, she tries so hard to keep her voice steady, and only mostly succeeds. ]

What else did he use, Riku?

[ She wants to hear him say it. ]

[He winces again, and he grows noticeably tense.]

Jealousy.

[ A weird, watery laugh escapes her. The sound is empty and humorless. God, Xion, don't cry, not now, not in front of him...

She knew. Deep down she knew, of course. But the confirmation is as painful as she always thought it would be. That day, after that bizarre family experiment had ended, and she'd confronted him with Luke's ring... his voice, his face...

A hiccup escapes her. Damn. Damn it. Why is it that she can't stop the tears? ]

Why ... why would you be jealous? Riku ... I'm not even human. It's like you said... I never lived a normal life. [ Her smile is a slash in her face, a deeply wounded thing. ] How could I ever understand?
