[ ... for the first time she can hear, behind those words, his frustration. For the first time she truly hears the futility, the sorrow... the shame, guilt and grief. Before all she heard was aggression, and blame... blame on her. But now she finally hears it ... just how frustrated he is with himself for constantly failing.

She sniffles, and stares at him, and tries to think of what to say.

Finally, wordlessly -- and with an effort -- she holds out her hand. ]

He's a little unsure. Riku expected more of the same thing. He's stubborn. He's just talking with nothing to back it up.

But that's not what's happening, is it? He's slow to respond, but when he does, he tentatively takes that hand.

The guilt is still plain to see.]

[ Gently, very gently, she curls her fingers around his hand. She sniffles again, her tears much slower now, and .... gives his hand a light squeeze -- it's all she can manage -- before she looks him in the eye. Her look is not unkind, though serious. ]

Then we end it here. Riku ... instead of avoiding each other or arguing, why don't we be friends instead?

[Friends... hah. It feels like so long since they've been on decent terms. It's been a rocky road; he almost forgot how things used to be between them, before everything became so complicated.

After a moment, he nods, albeit slowly.]

Yeah. We should at least try.
