[ There is a creature in the plaza.

Though initially it hid behind the clothing shop, it seems to be venturing out now, just slightly ... looking for an opening to sneak away.

Can this creature summon portals on its own? Xion does not understand it, this body. She has seen these things before, of course, but to BE one? It's strange and terrifying. She'd known before, when she had Sora's face, felt it, but ... hadn't that been an exception? She'd tried -- right now, she couldn't even talk. And she could feel it. This wrong face, this wrong body, not hers. The only thing that might mark her, right now, is a curious (possibly cruel) artifact the Malnosso let her keep upon her return. Around the creature's neck, on a chain, is a ring. Xion does not seem to have realized it is there. She has rather more important things on her mind, after all.

Turned into a Dusk. The one threat Xemnas always turned on his members should they become unruly. She'd known. But how... he's not here! She'd only been taken for a night at most. How could the Malnosso....

What is wrong with her?

Should you be about in the evening, you may see this creature trying to rush, twist, and dart its way back to house 14 in that odd, swaying way Dusks seem to move.

But be careful if you run into her while you're out -- she just might turn into someone else entirely. ]

[Luke will die before he reaches 18. Sob.

He stays unmoving, like some kind of protective force, though he does slide his hand up and down her shoulder at some points. Doesn't stroke her hair, like he wanted to do at first - why point out her differences even more?

Once she speaks, Luke loosens his hold a little, just to give her an invitation to move away if she wants to.]

They'll get worried if you don't.

I know. I just... this is awful. I don't know who else I'm going to turn into, but ... I can't imagine how everyone will feel if I go home and I keep turning into them. Or other people we care about... or even people we hate. [ She already brought up the possibility. But as the reality of this continues to sink in, the real threat of it becomes too frightening to speak aloud.

What if she DID turn into Vanitas? And she was at home? What if Axel was there....?

What if she turned into Xemnas, in front of Sora?

Saix, in front of Roxas?

Her expression collapses, her stoicism vanishing to be replaced by fear, pain, and grief. Far from moving away, she buries her face in his shoulder, not wanting him to see the way she's so obviously wearing her heart on her sleeve. ]

[It's all right to wear her heart on her sleeve around him. In return, Luke just holds her closer again, as if he's her calm in her storm. She does need to tell her friends what's going on... Why she keeps changing into these forms, what's happening to her. But after that... Would she still be comfortable there?

It's that thought which makes Luke ask his next question.]

... Do you want to stay with me for a while? Until this is over?

[ A fervent nod against his shoulder. That's not even something she has to think about. Although... ]

... what about Asch?

[There's just a slight pause; What would Asch think? But Luke's pretty sure, so his silence doesn't last long.]

I think Asch would let you stay if he saw what was happening to you. [Another little pause, and then he gives a quiet snort, sounding both humored and bitter.] He doesn't really care about what I do anyway.

[ "He wouldn't scorn me?"

The words stay only in her mind, though, because she hears the bitterness in his voice and lifts her head to look at him.

... brothers. Right.

With a sympathetic frown she reaches up to touch his cheek, not saying anything further just yet. ]

[It's been a while since that experiment and there was still a whole wall of tension between the two of them. Asch would rather ignore that Luke ever existed, and Luke isn't sure if he wants to do the same or try even harder to be closer. Why did he think they could live together again?

But the touch to his cheek snaps him out of his thoughts, and he gives a slightly helpless smile.]

It's fine. He'll be fine.

[ This is the face that does not believe it's fine, Luke. She strokes his cheek once more with a sigh, then leans in to press her face to his neck.

Were things otherwise, she'd be more affectionate, but ... she's a little too self-conscious about looking like Kairi to do much more than nuzzle. Gently ]

I guess we'll figure something out.

[Luke runs his fingers through her hair, just once. He's holding back a little, too, mostly for her sake. And she's right... Even if Asch wasn't okay with it, Luke would fight to keep her there. Or, at least, somewhere where she can be comfortable.]

Yeah.

[ Okay, Xion. Take a deep breath and just ... get going. Keep moving. Gently she pulls away from him, sitting up straight and--

--is that a mouse? Yes. A mouse. This might otherwise be fine, but the change in her size and overall structure is so drastic from her internal perception of herself that she is momentarily left insensible. Hi, just gonna kinda .... sit crumpled on the ground for a minute like a broken doll staring away into nothing. Please call back later. ]

[... Is that a giant mouse? Luke jumps a bit at the sudden change and brings his arms back, because whoa, giant mouse and what. Hugging girls and even guys is okay, but giant mice?

Luke keeps his arms up and hovering awkwardly for a moment because what does he even do, until he slowly lowers them and gets a good look at Xion. What was wrong with her?]

... Xion?

[ She does not respond. She's not quite all there just yet.

Rebooting . . .| ]

[Hesitantly, Luke places the palm of his hand against her head, between the two... ears, and tilts his head to the side to get a good look at her. Is... that really her in there? Is she okay?]

[ All of a sudden she shakes her head, dislodging his hand, her eyes clearing as she looks up at him. ]

... Luke?

[ Looking around, bewildered. ]

... I'm so small.

[laskdfafj - oh. Oh! Okay, she's... okay. Just looks very different. ... Very different.

Luke can't help but give a half grin as he puts his hands on his knees and just... stares down at her.]

Heh... Really small.

[ Not small enough! An instant later there's .... hey, where'd she go?

Is that her? On the ground? Looks like she's out cold. She's not, she's just dazed and got her eyes shut, but man, now she's REALLY tiny. ]

[... Blink blink. Where'd she go...? Luke looks around at first - maybe she turned into something really fast again? But then he looks down at the ground. ... Oh. What... Is that some kind of fairy?

Luke balances his weight on the ground with one hand as he carefully uses the other to work it under her tiny body. Wow... She can fit right in the palm of his hand.]

Xion?

[ At first all she does is reflexively curl up in his hand, trying to get away from the sound. Nnngh...

After a few moments she pulls herself upright ... then jumps.

What in the--?! ]

Luke! [ Her voice sounds kinda tiny and tinny now. ] This is ... this is way too weird.

Luke's eyes widen a little, and he groans inwardly. At least Xion doesn't act like Mieu... asldfkjadsfkj.]

... Yeah. [He lifts up his hand so that she's more level with his face.] You're some kind of... fairy now.

[ Does Mieu sulk? Cuz she sulking. This sucks. She can't even hug her boyfriend now, life is awful. Plus, being lifted up on somebody's hand is weird and hard. She ends up falling back down as he lifts her, then irritably pushes back to her feet once the motion stops. ]

Great. Now I'm going to have to be carried everywhere. I want this to be over already!

You're not the only one. [Because good god that voice. But... huh.] You've got wings, though... Bigger wings, I mean. You could try flying!

... really? [ She can't help but be intrigued by this idea. Looking over her shoulder...

... why yes. There are wings. This is weird beyond belief since this isn't her body but ... she tries to give them a flap.

They work!

Flutter flutter. Briefly she gets them up to speed, lifting herself unsteadily about an inch above his palm ... but she quickly loses her balance and tumbles back down. ] Ow...

[Luke gave a quiet and brief laugh once she lifted herself up. Ha... She really could fly! That must feel so - oh. Maybe she can't quite fly - Luke holds up both hands, one to catch her and the other to make sure she doesn't lose her balance and fall again.]

Hey, you almost got it! Try one more time. [He kind of sounds... excited about this!]

[ ... his enthusiasm is infectious. Xion can't help but smile, and she braces herself against his other hand as she climbs back to her feet. ]

Okay. One more time.

[ Slowly .... she flaps her wings, slow at first, then quickly building up speed. Once more, she hovers off his palm ...

... and this time stays in the air. ]

Look, I'm doing it! [ BEAM. ]

Ha... You're doing it! [Aaah he has to grin and even laugh while he speaks, though he keeps his hands up just in case she falls again.] You're flying! You're flying on your own!
