[ It's been just over a week since the storm and the infiltration, and the self-repair Shifts are finally kicking in. It's been a busy time, and Xion has been throwing most of her energy into helping fix what's been broken. But with things finally starting to calm down, and with lingering thoughts of the draft and a certain conviction on her mind, she settles down with her journal to make an announcement. ]

... for those of you who knew Suki, you knew she also headed the Kyoshi Warriors here in Luceti. Now that she's gone home... [ A deep breath. ] ... I'd like to see the group continue. So, if none of the existing members have any objections ... I'll be leading the Kyoshi Warriors from now on. For those who don't know me, my name is Xion.

[ It's a little more formal than she might normally speak. But this isn't really a casual thing, is it? She feels a certain pressure - both to live up to Suki's teachings, and what may well be Sokka's expectations. More than anything, she feels a need to do right by Suki's memory for Sokka's sake - and for the sake of all the other girls in the group. ]

The purpose of the Kyoshi Warriors ... was to teach people how to fight. Or a different way, if you already know. It's a group just for girls, right now. [ She pauses. It strikes her as strange, in a way, to separate out the genders. Deep down, she never saw the point. ] Considering things happen like the drafts... everyone should have a basic understanding of combat, if they want. Just to stay safe. You don't have to know anything about combat to be a part of it. We'll teach you. So if you want to join, come talk to me.

Anyway, guys, I think we should keep practicing every Sunday like we've always been. I know we missed about two weeks with the draft and Suki going home and everything... but we'll just have to make up for it!

Oh, and I guess, while I'm here... what do you all think about letting boys in?

Gosh, why didn't it occur to her that maybe, just maybe, someone from Sokka's world besides Sokka himself might want a say in this sort of thing?

Oh, um, hi! It's nice to meet you too, Aang. ... wait, you were what?

I'm her reincarnation, kinda. I don't know if Suki told you much about Kyoshi, but she was the most recent Avatar in the Earth Kingdom! The Avatar cycle has it so that every time the Avatar dies, he or she gets reborn in the next nation in the cycle. So now, I'm Aang, an Airbender and the current Avatar!

[ ...

Trying to remember what Suki told her about Kyoshi. ]

Um... wow! That sounds pretty amazing. And kind of strange... not that it's a bad thing! Just... [ A quick laugh. ] Reincarnation, being the Avatar... it all sounds so important.

Thanks. I guess it is pretty important, but no need to make a big deal about it. I just thought it would be nice to know.

It is kind of cool. Do you remember anything? About ... being Kyoshi, or anything like that?

No, it doesn't really work like that. I don't have the memories of my past lives in me. But back home, I could connect with their spirits, and they could tell me things or show me their memories themselves, sometimes even possess me. I was possessed by Kyoshi once.

Was that... as weird as it sounds?

Actually, it was like I was knocked out the whole time. I don't remember what it was like, but apparently it looked like I had been replaced with Kyoshi instead of her just being in my body. It was only for a few minutes, just long enough to explain how she killed Chin the Conqueror. It was just kind of awkward, since we were trying to prove that the Avatar was innocent of that death. But it all turned out well!

Wow. Your life sounds really exciting!

... can you tell me more about being the Avatar, Aang?

[ She's always been a little curious. ]

Sure! [Where to start...] Well... I'm the Avatar! I'm supposed to try to keep peace in the world and learn all four elements. And I have, so far! I'm also the link between the physical world and the spirit world, to stop the spirits from getting mad.

The spirits can get mad? Like.... Kyoshi could get mad at you? What did they get mad about?

[Light-heartedly.] I think Kyoshi's always mad. But it's really the other spirits I have to communicate with - the ones associated with nature. Like one time, there was this forest spirit that was mad because its forest burned down, so it attacked the nearby village and kidnapped Sokka. And there's also a really scary spirit named Koh who steals people's faces, but I don't really know why.

... has anyone told you about Moro, yet? [ Tries not to laugh. Mostly succeeds. ] Because an angry forest spirit sounds kind of familiar. It sounds like they're pretty powerful, though... how did you calm them down?

Yeah, we've talked. [And met in person, but both during experiments that Aang doesn't really remember.] She is angry, but she isn't trying to hurt people, at least. It is kind of a good example of the type of spirits I'm trying to please.

As for that forest spirit? I was able to connect with its true form and reminded it that there was hope for the forest to grow again, because of a bunch of acorns I found. Then he became my friend and let me ride him whenever I went to the Spirit World.
