Of course I'm right. And at least you're normal again, whatever that means. [Another half-hearted grin before he's back into careful mode. How to word that he's completely unaware of the going-ons of the village post the last draft...] Yeah, in general. It's far too quiet now.

[ She shakes her head a little slowly. ] ... I don't really know. I was gone for such a long time... I missed the draft. [ Somewhat soberly. ] You probably know more than I do.

...that long huh? [Well. That just means there isn't any more small talk he can make before he gets to his point.] Maybe. [Another long pause, allowing them to walk in silence for at least five minutes.]

...you've probably guessed that there's something I want to ask you.

Yeah. [ Without any pause at all, as she tucks her hair behind her ear. ] I know you wouldn't ask me out here without some kind of reason.

Is everything okay?

...I'm not entirely sure. [Which, he supposes, is true enough.] I wanted to ask you questions about the memory. I figured you'd be the best candidate to ask, considering who you are and the things you've experienced. ...how would you, or anyone really, know if something was missing?

.... that's a hard question to answer. [ And she thinks about it, very hard. She tilts her head back, staring at the sky and considering. ] I sort of had the opposite problem... having all those memories that weren't mine. If something went missing... I think maybe I'd feel it here. [ She presses a hand over her chest. ] Your mind might forget something, but... your heart never does. Something will always feel wrong... like something is missing, but you don't know what.

[...of course. How could he have been so stupid as to not account for the heart? But the heart could easily change, right? If he didn't know what was missing, eventually his heart would change and right itself again. He's not sure how he knows his heart can change so easily, instinct maybe. But it seemed right. He's silent for another long stretch of time as he considers her words.]

Hmm. Luckily, I suppose the heart is easier to remedy than the mind. Right? Feelings change and all that.

... I'm not so sure. The mind forgets, but... I think it's harder for the heart to let go. [ Her fingers curl. She remembers... Riku. ]

But... feelings can change. I know that for sure. Is ... that what you want?

[Another long pause. And then in a voice that's more quiet than prior--]

I don't believe I have a choice now.

[ ... she stops and looks at him, her eyes bright with concern. ]

[A casual shrug, though he's careful to keep his eyes cast toward the lake and not at Xion's face.] They're missing.

[ Her mouth tightens into a line, but her voice is still gentle. ]

Memories don't go missing for no reason.

[ She's not probing - not necessarily. He can explain himself, or not. She won't force him... but she is worried. ]

Yes, I know. I asked for it, so I suppose they finally listened to me. I can't be entirely certain, but I know something's missing. What else could it be?

No... you're probably right. But what do you mean you asked? You mean the Malnosso...?

[...give him a moment to pull out his journal. He's flipping backward to his last entry and lets her read it. That's all he'll offer for now.]

[ She's silent, reading this. Something tightens around her heart - something dark and a little awful.

He must have had something he really, absolutely needed to lose.

After a few minutes of silence and reading, she finally hands him his journal back. And all she does, initially, is reach out and press a hand to his arm in sympathy. ]

You said they were missing... I guess, if you're sure about that, then they must have listened.

I guess I just assumed they didn't actually take direct orders. Do you think it's...bad?

[ She's silent again, thinking. ]

I think ... it's drastic. Really drastic. It must have been for a good reason, right?

[ But she's holding back from him, and he'll be able to see through her in an instant. ]

I don't know. You tell me. [He's very aware that she's holding back an answer, and it's disconcerting.]

[ ... ]

I think... that if you forgot me, I'd be really hurt. But... while you can be kind of blunt, you're not a bad person. [ She smiles a little, soft and sad. This is the truth. ] I know you must have had a reason. A really good one. And if that's the case... then I think you did what you had to. And that's okay.

...I could never forget about you. I'd never ask to forget you or my housemates. [Other people, sure, but he hasn't figured that out yet.] If I ever figure out what that reason is, I might let you know. I just have to figure out what they erased.

[ She looks at him in silence for a moment, her expression shifting subtly as that sinks in.

And then she just -- all at once -- approaches and hugs him, tightly. Relieved and sad for him all at once. ]
